When child is in mother’s tummy, both the testicles are inside baby’s tummy. However, as 9 months of pregnancy progresses, both the testicles are supposed to come down in scrotum (Bag of testis beneath the penis)
However, in some kids testis may get stuck either inside tummy or at groin. In majority of cases, testis stuck in groin comes down to normal location in first 6 months of life, Testis situated inside the tummy rarely comes down. So we always ask parents to wait and watch for 6 months of life. If there is no descent in first six months, chances of testis coming down by itself are very less. Read More
WHAT IS HERNIA?
Protrusion of some organ (mostly intestine) outside tummy (which is inside normally) is called as hernia.
You need to understand the structural arrangement in groin.
Every child male or female, has natural ring like opening in both groins called as Inguinal Ring. This ring should get closed at the time of birth. But in some kids it may remain open and that leads to hernia.
HOW DID YOU DIAGNOSE HERNIA?
Answer: This hernia has a special finding that it comes and goes. Whenever pressure inside the tummy increases like child is coughing, crying, jumping or straining at urine or stool; the swelling appears and it goes back when pressed or child goes to sleep. So Hernia is mainly a clinical diagnosis. But in doubtful cases sonography may help. Read More

Answer: Inability to retract the prepuce (also called as foreskin) is called as phimosis.

Answer: Yes, most of the infants have phimosis which is called as physiological phimosis. However over 1-2 years prepuce should get easily retractable. But if he has difficulty or problem due to phimosis he may need surgery before 2 years as well.
IS IT BAD OR OKAY IF CHILD HAS PHIMOSIS?
Answer: it’s not okay. Because child’s urine will will come from inner hole on glans but cant easily pass through the outer hole in foreskin. Urine may get collected in prepuse leading to infections. Read More
